Event Description:

Harvard Divinity School Professor Davíd Carrasco pays homage to Toni
Morrison for the wisdom she shares with us. He tells stories about her
quest to confront the evils of racism and place goodness and mercy at
the heart of her writings and teaching. The talk will include excerpts
from the recent film, "Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am." The event,
which serves as HDS's Convocation Ceremony, will begin with a welcome
by Wampanoag elder Ramona Peters, and include a dramatic reading of
Morrison's prose by actress Alexandria Danielle King and jazz pianist
Danilo Pérez will perform a tribute to Morrison. HDS Professor Cornel
West will offer a blessing and HDS Dean David N. Hempton and Harvard
Professor Arthur Kleinman will also speak.
